Service Delivery

Johan is responsible for the delivery of accounting services (primarily financial statement preparation) to a portfolio of complex offshore structures which includes companies, partnerships, foundations, private trust companies and trusts. Johan has prepared numerous sets of financial statements for structures based in the Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, United States, Netherlands and South Africa.

Southern Cross Accounting Services seeks to provide a quality comprehensive back office service centre focused primarily on the offshore financial services industry. These services include amongst others accounting, financial statement preparation, investment & loss data reporting and analysis and quality timely cost effective service solutions. Relevant Experience

Johan began his career with Deloitte in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2003 where he obtained extensive IT, manufacturing, education, retail and tourism sector audit experience.

During 2006 Johan completed short-term audit contracts with both Deloitte in Los Angeles and the Australian National Audit Office in Canberra, Australia. In late 2006 Johan returned to South Africa where he joined Altimax advisory services for a year where he served as a financial reporting specialist focusing on IFRS compliant financial statement preparation.

Johan joined KPMG in the Cayman Islands late 2007 where he was a member of the Structured Finance business unit and was involved in fund and structured investment/special purpose vehicle audits. Johan was most recently with the RBC Wealth Management’s Cayman Islands office working as a senior trust accountant (2010 - 2013) responsible for the financial statement preparation of large, complex offshore structures including trusts, companies and partnerships. 

In 2013 Johan participated in conceptualising and launching Southern Cross Accounting Services to be a quality comprehensive back office service centre based in South Africa. 

Johan brings 12 years of accounting, trust, and audit experience to his role as principal and director of Southern Cross Accounting Services.

Professional Designations

Johan received his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in South Africa. He is a graduate of the University of Pretoria in South Africa, where he completed both his Bachelor of Accounting and Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) degrees. During 2014 Johan attained the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners designation (TEP) (with an overall distinction) by completing his exams required for the Diploma in International Trust Management.

Personal Drivers

Johan enjoys spending time with his wife Jana. Johan's biggest blessing was when his son Jordan was born on his birthday in February 2013. In their spare time Johan and family enjoys exploring the scenic Eastern Cape province in South Africa.

Johan is passionate about triathlon and has completed three full Ironman triathlons and more than ten half iron and olympic distance triathlons. In the process Johan qualified to represent the Cayman Islands in the Island Games triathlon event held in Bermuda during July 2013 as well as qualifying for the USA Triathlon age group championships which was held in Wisconcin during August 2013. Most recently Johan has also qualified to represent South Africa in the Triathlon World Age Group Championships to be held in Chicago during September 2015.

Johan is also the co-founder and race director of the Mercuryman half iron triathlon in the Cayman Islands.
